On July 1, 2021, new regulations went into effect to allow clergy and employees of religious non-profits to quality for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Once reserved for specific types of public service, individuals involved in religious instructions, leading worship, or winning the lost my now meet the employment criteria for school loan forgiveness.
The Department of Education has updated its website to reflect this change in the definition of full-time employment and qualifying work.
However, the program is notorious for long delays, low approval rates, and other complications. But it may be worth the effort for religious workers in our churches and schools.
