Board involvement is a struggle for most non-profits, including churches and schools. However, many board members are not aware how critical their role is in long-term development. We have also found that most board members are not aware of their own fiduciary responsibilities to the organization they server, or their own personal liability in the decision making process. In most states, board members can be held personally responsible for any issues of liabilities that occur on the property of the school or church. Maybe now is a good time to evaluate your board and its functions.
